I received a box from O2 today, haven't opened it yet, will probably open it when I get back to Foyer so Gill can open it with me.
Got a meeting with Gill & another member of Foyer staff (whose name still escapes me) in January, I've got to clear my "O2 Cloud" of most of its information for us to do during the meeting. I'm excited to open the box, i'll record the opening for you to see :)

We've all gotta eat right? So why not learn how to do it together? This Project is about bringing the Residents of Doncaster Foyer together, teaching them Health & Safety in the kitchen & cooking things they wanna eat that don't come from the frozen ready-meal aisle at the supermarket. This is about having fun & making sure we're getting at least one good meal a week & showing us how to do it ourselves for when we leave Foyer

Residents
We have interested residents, lil Gill mentioned it during the Residents meeting tonight & a few people mentioned qualifications that could help me. Already got a short list of people who want to be involved.
I'll be making a poster & adding them to peoples pidegy's & asking them to contact me/Gill
Got a meeting tomorrow about the O2 ThinkBig thing with Jill & probably someone higher up in Foyer Staff as we still need to do Risk Assessments & actually talk about it instead of passing comments in the hallway etc. Looking forward to it, really.

Phone Call
I called O2 think big today as i received an Email asking me to call them sometime this week to discuss my application. She asked if she could call me back to save my use of minutes (as i'm on my mobile phone since i'm away on holiday at Center-Parcs, Sherwood Forest, Nottingham)
We had a really positive discussion about my application where I explained what Foyer is & what I want to do with the project. It's looking positive & she suggested an idea about getting local restaurant(s) involved to learn about more cultural foods.
I've been told that their decision will be made either today or next week as they're doing meetings like that weekly up to xmas (& will continue to do so after xmas presumably also) Libby took notes during our phone conversation & I plan on emailing Alison & asking for a copy of the notes for my file.
anywhooo
calling M25 now to try and obtain the NHS Cook & Eat lady's number so we could try & integrate her into our sessions/learning as help from the NHS would be incredibly helpful... spoke to Colin, he says he'll call me back either today or in a few days hopefully with the contact details for her, I vaguely recall her name being Sharon but it's been a while (a stressful while at that considering the moving twice, the surgery to remove my gallbladder & getting re-settled in a new place) so my brain's understandably a little foggy. http://www.m25group.org.uk/wharf-house.html
talk to you soon, gonna go look at some of the research i've downloaded to my Google Drive (lots of PDF's on cook and eat sessions and ideas about food hygiene etc)
take care all

Update
Ok, so I've been brain-storming or thought-showering or whatever.
I've got a load of research on my google drive, lots to sort through & a few brain stormy bits to scan in & add onto here (so i don't misplace them somehow, we all know how life can do that with things that are even organised in a folder :/)
I've been mind-mapping what i'll need to buy, things that need doing etc. I'll upload screen-captures of them. This whole cooking thing is a good idea.
I wanna learn to be a better cook, I wanna do it safely & when I'm at home (Foyer) I see people buying junk/excuses for food rather than actually cooking which makes me wonder how often some of them eat a good/decent meal & whether they're getting the nutrition they need...
...I wanna do this & do it right & don't think i'll be able to do anywhere near as well without the assistance of the O2 Think Big Grant. I can research all i want and imagine things to my hearts content, without the help of O2 & Foyer I haven't the foggiest where to start or what to do with what actually have.
I could get a qualification in Food Hygene & some kind of Health & Safety thing, not to mention basic workshop training
[which would help me as an artist, as i'd like to run creative art workshops in the future at some point]
righty, it's 2am now & i'm awake blogging with a bad sleeping pattern.... luckily I'm on holiday & don't have to be up early early in the mornin so i'm kinda allowed to have a daft sleeping pattern this week.
reminder to self-buy xmas cards so i can send them to the addresses i have for people! :)

Cook & Eat for Foyer
Well Hello There,
this is just a little introduction to what's been happening. I Naomi, am a resident at Doncaster Foyer (as run by the Salvation Army). I've only lived there about a week now & during my interview I expressed an interest in cooking, which must've led my Key-worker Gill to look into things... Anyway one thing's led to another & during a keywork session she told me about O2's Think Big thing & I've applied for a grant.
This blog is here to record progress, photos, recipe ideas etc. anyway, that's it for now.
take care, see you soon :)
Naomi x
