might be getting some equipment etc from ASDA, the main reason I've started the inventory again is because on Thursday's Drop-In (free meal from Doncaster Housing for Young People, served at a church down the road from Foyer, every thursday at half 12) I was speaking to one of their staff regulars whose always wearing an ASDA uniform, i asked if there's any possibility of maybe getting some equipment from them at a discounted rate, we might even be able to swing some sort of "association" with them & the sessions where we get our ingredients discounted also.
i dont know, lots to discuss with karen & yvonne when they're next in.
We've all gotta eat right? So why not learn how to do it together? This Project is about bringing the Residents of Doncaster Foyer together, teaching them Health & Safety in the kitchen & cooking things they wanna eat that don't come from the frozen ready-meal aisle at the supermarket. This is about having fun & making sure we're getting at least one good meal a week & showing us how to do it ourselves for when we leave Foyer

CarlBonara SMILE
Great Basketball session today but i'm not here to talk about that really :) might circle back to it at the end.
Carl Millar (SMILE - Simply Making It Look Easy) taught myself Becky& Chris to make his version of Carbonara Photos available here, if link doesnt work copy & paste this - https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.601385973210863.161140.585437351472392&type=3
Putting the recipe on the google drive. Becky was taking photographs while we were cooking, i'll be gettin them off her later on.
Cooking & Me:
I'm feeling really proud of everything i've done so far, more so because the Staff of Doncaster Foyer keep complimenting on how impressed they are with everything that's being done, Carl MIllar told me the first time he met me that "you make me wobble" which is a big thing for him, as he said. I'm taking it to mean that he's impressed too, that was 5 weeks ago, He's the one making me wobble, i unsderstand it more now as the staff & himself have been talking about me with the Foyer Organisation & to their circles & talking about taking this cooking with foyer thing up & down the country, I swear i nearly fell on the floor i was so shocked & amazed. The word humble keeps popping up in my mind especuially since it's not all me, the wonderful people who work here, the residents who want to or have gotten involved & Carl himself of course.
Carl's here until tomorrow, usually he heads back on a train to London in the evening after the food we cooked post-basketball session. We're gonna be cookin ALL DAY tomorrow I'm so incredibly excited to have this opportuinity, gonna damn well make the most of it too.
He calls our team (basketball & cooking) his Familia, & he's right. I'm stayin in touch after the SMILE Program (Simply Making It Look Easy) is over this time.
someone suggested the idea of making a cookbook... this could continually raise money to buy ingredients & take this cookin thing from just foyer to every foyer & out into communities too.
Basketball sessions:
Todays session went even better than expected today, by pure serendipitous chance, when we arrived at Doncaster Hub's B-Ball indoor court Doncaster College's own basketball team, Carl & David (B-Ball Coach in training) took it upon themselves to expand our team & invite them in (after checking with us that we'd be willing to share our time/space with them, which we did & it got a little competitive haha) SMILE Community Basketball team
A couple of weeks ago Carl asked/challenged me to design a logo for SMILE, i've come up with a few concepts which we'll be discussing tomorrow over breakfast (we'll be cooking for everyone again) or lunch (again cooked by us) Carl wants official gear for our team. Hoodies, Shorts, joggers, shirts, vests etc David's got a friend who prints the shirts & all that kinda stuff, he contacted his friend today & in a few days with finalised designs we'll be payin for the stuff (free for doncaster foyer, everyone else has to pay, which is fair) with Davids friend then wearin them to B-Ball, the Plymouth Matchn & everywhere else we're representing SMILE.
Carl Millar is a walking talking smiling inspiration, he will make you wobble :) truly
Just SMILE & remember You Are Gold
Only a couple of weeks left until the Big Game in Plymouth against their Foyer B-ball team, we're gonna make them wobble ;) we are gold

Cooking for SMILE Basketballers
New Aspect of CWF(Cookin with Foyer)
Carl Millar wishes to integrate his basketball sesions with a healthy eating session for when they come back from Doncaster College's Gym (where they have the sessions)
Several people within foyer are doing this "SMILE - Simple Making It Look Easy" thing will Carl Millar (Ex-Pro Basketball Player), every monday.
unfortunately this week Carl got stuck in London because of the snow so David (a resident here & basketball coach in training) lead the basketball sessions instead. Carl was meant to be teaching me how to do Pasta Carbonara, Yvonne had already got all the ingredients & left them in the staff kitchen for us. Chris a staff member decided to step in & help us with the cooking since Carl was away. We cooked & served the food, it was hectic in that tiny kitchen!! but we did it :D
Trying to obtain some photographs Chris took while serving etc. Got to email Karen V about it since she'll be incharge of it all & she's gone home for the night.
Becky C wants to cook some kind of Curry next week or something along those lines, i'll discuss it with Yvonne tomorrow & see what can be done, as well as looking at risk assessments for food allergies etc.
speaking of allergies & dislikes, i asked people to write down their allergies on one side of a sheet & dislikes on the other side for my file for future reference.
Becky C has also asked if she can do the poster(s) from now on, as it's something she enjoys, i like this idea as it's one less thing for me to do. anyway that's all i can really remember for now, talk soon.
ideas for next week.
- keep the notice on the training room door to keep people out of it from 4pm-6pm. Mondays.
- post a notice of what's cookin (with ingredients)
- buy ingredients ourselves so we get everything (had to use garlic granules art the last minute, luckily we had some in)
- individual portions of cheese (if serving cheese) rather than leaving a bowl in the middle, this way everyone gets some rather than "first come first serve"
Chris's suggestion for the poster
"leave bad attitudes at the door, bring in your appetites & smiles"

Research - Equipment Comparisons (99p Store)
Was in the Doncaster 99p Store today, checking out what sorts of equipment they have considering what could be bought for this project.
I was asked by the staff to stop taking photographs (with my phone) as it isn't allowed in store. I didn't go against their wishes, luckily i'd just about finished taking images i needed.
I plan on going back later in the week & speaking to the staff/general manager, explaining what i'm doing & saying something about;

- establishing myself as a homeless person (not the grubby kind)
- informing them about my project
- promoting their product by using it in the project, informing residents about the equipment thereby getting them a customer-base within the Foyer
- inform them of the potential that I will be buying a lot from them for the project.
- request to take photographs, under their supervision (if necessary) for research for the project& promotion within Foyer

Simply Making It Look Easy - SMILE
![]() |
| Working with a SAHA (Salvation Army Housing Association) B-Ball team? The classic smile, i'm sure he's talkin about Chicken or girlies haha |
Smile stands for Simply Making it Look Easy. Teaching people the necessary skills in the current job-market to make jobs rather than take them (which is part of the Foyer's new initiative to get residents across the country into work) using their Talents. He'll be teaching us some basketball things (which are incredibly fun & absolutely hilarious) each week i think as well as having one-to-one's with us to help our individual talents, apparently this whole cooking thing of mine is included in the Talent thing & I'll be part of his 6-8 week training program.
Next Monday he'll be here, early to see me, so we can go shopping, buy some ingredients, he'll teach me to cook something & we'll be making enough so when the group (including ourselves) come back from Doncaster College/Hub's Gym for Basket Ball practice/training we'll have something to eat, integrating my learning, the project's idea & giving residents a nutritional meal after strenuous activity (including a lot of giggling since he's lots of fun to be around) I'll see if i can get hold of the images from Monday's session.

Kitchen Rep
As you know i'm a resident of Doncaster Foyer, I've been nominated as kitchen rep for thisfloor (each floor level in each of the 3blocks has a kitchen to share between the 5 residents residing on that floor) Technically I wont be the Kitchen Rep for my floor, as that position's been taken...however, staff have been considering the fact I spend most of my time on the ground floor of my block in my boyfriends room they've suggested that I be the rep for his floor
I've read the paperwork & signed the contract, this could help the whole O2 Think Big thing too :)
a few of my resident friends said they wouldn't do it but I kinda like the challenge.
Take Care all :)
